Aside from mobile hardware and software, Microsoft’s New York City event last week pretty much had it all. We were treated not only to a first-of-a-kind though mostly predictable Surface Studio all-in-one PC announcement, but a slightly more surprising albeit also less exciting Surface Book upgrade.

And then there was that big Windows 10 Creators Update preview, centered on 3D content creation and consumption, as well as a very concise introduction of new VR headsets powered by Windows Holographic for use alongside W10 computers.

Unfortunately, Redmond had extremely little to share on the specifications of upcoming devices developed in partnership with HP, Dell, Lenovo, Asus and Acer. But at least now we know when to expect details like field of view or resolution.

A couple of WinHEC (Windows Hardware Engineering Community) events in Shenzhen, China on December 8 – 9 and Taipei City, Taiwan on December 14 – 15 are confirmed to clear everything up, including differences between products manufactured by the aforementioned five companies.

That’s right, these won’t be created equal, and they’ll start at $300, connecting to $500 and up PCs in order to deliver various mixed reality experiences. They’ll all sit below the extravagant Microsoft-made HoloLens in terms of capabilities and complexity, at least one of them launching commercially in the spring, while the rest will be spread out over the remainder of the year. Color us intrigued.
