This trade-in offer either went too well or extremely, extremely wrong. Maybe it shouldn’t have been offered at all. Maybe it wasn’t?
The Microsoft Store decided to give Macbook Air or Macbook Pro owners up to $650 for a trade-in toward any Surface device in stock and online starting today. The way it was supposed to go was that customers would go through an online appraisal process, then submit the Macbook and any accessories to Microsoft through the post. The Macbook had to be in working order, operable off the charger with no broken parts, damage or modifications or a voided warranty. Customers would get a promo code in exchange.
Thing was, the campaign was supposed to run through November 7. It apparently ended.
We called Microsoft Store customer service and a representative told us that there was no trade-in promotion scheduled for today and that the last one happened in January. We observe that it would also be an odd time for such a promotion with new Surface hardware presumably due out on Wednesday and a competing launch event from Apple the day after.
Just in case we’re missing anything, we have contacted our MSPoweruser colleague that covered this story and will update this post if we hear back.
