Microsoft-Nokia deal expected to close next month
On September 3, 2013, Microsoft and Nokia announced a deal through which the Finnish manufacturer’s Devices and Services division has been acquired by the Redmond-based software giant. After internal consents from the board, there were still a couple of hurdles in the deal’s way, mostly represented by regulatory approvals.
Nokia announced that next month, April, is when it expects “the sale of substantially all of its Devices & Services business to Microsoft”. This will arrive just a tad late compared to the initial Microsoft-Nokia deal forecast of the acquisition closing within the first quarter of the year. Subject to regulatory approvals, the deal is making progress, getting “most of the required regulatory approvals”, from, but not limited to, the European Commission and the U.S. Department of Justice. While still under review by certain Asian antitrust authorities, Nokia and Microsoft reiterate their commitment to finalizing the deal as quickly as possible.
