With rumors of an eventual Lumia brand termination in favor of Surface marketing ramp-ups escalating and gaining credibility, fans of the once mighty Nokia-owned device family must be hoping the 650 won’t take on swan song responsibilities.

It’d simply be too sad to see a humble 5-incher that reportedly combines Lumia 640 and 550 features end an era of camera innovation, design charisma and low-cost excellence. On the bright side, the no doubt imminent Microsoft Lumia 650 has just been confirmed by the world’s most trusted mobile leakster as “having a very nice fit and finish”, as well as “appearing even more luxurious in hand than the Lumia 950 variants.”

Now, we don’t know about the 950 comparison, since the first ever Windows 10 Mobile flagships are pretty handsome if you don’t mind polycarbonate builds, but next to the 640 and 550, the 650 sure seems chic, based on a number of previously revealed renders, and a fresh live pic.

The unusually premium construction of the low-ender may help it go after business consumers on tight budgets, but the nearly guaranteed quad-core Snapdragon 210 processor, 1GB RAM and 2,000 mAh battery make this essentially impossible to advertise as even a solid mid-range W10M soldier.

For Pete’s sake, that juicer is smaller than the one inside the Lumia 550, and added wireless charging functionality can’t completely compensate for the severe compromise. The display will obviously sport HD (1,280 x 720 pixels) resolution, there’s no trace of LTE connectivity onboard, apparently, and a commercial release is slated to go down by the end of March.
