Microsoft Confirms Angry Birds, Plants vs. Zombies for WP7

By Stephen Schenck February 24, 2011, 5:30 pm

Last week Rovio revealed that Angry Birds for Windows Phone 7 was on its way eventually, but that business and legal concerns were posing a delay. While there's still a bit of a wait before you'll be able to start knocking down some pigs on your WP7 device, Microsoft's finally assigned the game a release window. The port of the hugely successful title will be among those that start arriving on April 6, along with a handful of other high-profile games.

Angry Birds is arguably the most anticipated of the announced titles, all part of Microsoft's "Must-Have Games" campaign. There are increasingly fewer and fewer excuses for not having checked out this top-selling app, with the addition of this WP7 version. When exactly the port arrives isn't clear, but it should be sometime before the middle of May; The Must-Have Games will start coming out on April 6, with all announced titles dropping within the following six-week period.

POCKETNOW VIDEO OF THE DAY

Microsoft continued with news of other big-name smartphone apps making the leap over to WP7, including the lighthearted tower defense of Plants vs. Zombies, Sega's side-scrolling return of its mascot in Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode I, and Hydro Thunder Go, a speedboat racer along the lines of the 360's Hydro Thunder Hurricane.

Because these are Xbox LIVE titles, you'll get the standard set of social tweaks to the games, including an online leaderboard and unlockable achievements.

Look for the above games, as well as Doodle Jump and geoDefense, to start arriving on WP7 this April.
