Microsoft China Talks Windows Phone 7.8 Launch

Just when will Windows Phone 7.8 finally make its debut? There’s been a lot of talk on this topic over the past week or so, and just like today’s update, a lot of that news has been coming out of Southeast Asia. First we saw a leak that suggested WP7.8 wouldn’t arrive until sometime in early 2013, but just a little bit later we heard about a Microsoft event in Singapore that informed participants that the software had already been RTMed and would be landing in a matter of weeks, if not days. That’s definitely sounding more and more like a certainty, upon a Microsoft China exec making similar claims about Windows Phone 7.8’s arrival.

The VP talked to a Beijing newspaper, where he stated that China would be seeing Windows Phone 8 arrive in December. More interestingly, he said that WP7.8 would similarly be hitting the nation in the coming weeks. Sure, there’s the possibility that he might have been referring to early 2013, but odds are that the company is trying to get WP7.8 out before the end of the year.

Of course, even if we had a 100% certain date for the Chinese arrival of WP7.8, that would still leave plenty of questions about when it would show up elsewhere, but at this point we’re just itching to see it make its presence known at all.
