Men Choose Android Over iPhone, Few of Us Loyal to Our Phones
A new Nielsen study analyzing the smartphone market has revealed some interesting statistics on how we buy phones, including an Android versus iPhone gender preference, and that most of us are planning to switch platforms when we shop for our next phones.
Among current phone users looking to upgrade to a new model, women show a strong preference for iPhones. Compared to the 22.8 percent looking to get an Android model, 30.9 percent have their hearts set on an Apple device. Men tend to prefer Android over iPhone, but the spread isn’t nearly as great, with 32.6 percent favoring Android and 28.6 percent choosing iPhones. Women are also more undecided about their next smartphone, as 23.8 percent don’t know what to get, yet only 14.9 percent of men haven’t made up their mind.
Age-based breakdowns of smartphone platform preference aren’t too surprising; pretty much everyone prefers iPhone over Android, with the exception of the 35-54-year-old crowd and its slight leaning towards Android. The most consistent statistic from this data is that the older you get, the less likely you are to have an opinion at all about your next smartphone.
Either we’re all very picky, or just like to try something new, because the numbers show that only a quarter of us plan on sticking with the smartphone platform we’re using now when we finally upgrade. iPhone users are the most loyal, and over half of them will keep using Apple gear. BlackBerry also attracts a loyal crowd, but just 28 percent of Android users and 21 percent of Windows Phone users plan to stick with the phones.
