Meizu Says Microsoft Working on Getting Windows Mobile Apps On Windows CE

Remember Meizu? The Chinese company responsible for the iClone and then made it less like an iPhone? Well, the software that powers Meizu’s handheld comes from Microsoft and runs Windows CE. The CEO of Meizu recently wrote on the company’s blog that Microsoft will be working on allowing Windows CE to run Windows Mobile applications.

While Windows CE is the core operating system on which Windows Mobile runs on top–much like the relationship between Linux and Android–apps created for Windows Mobile generally do not run on the vanilla Windows CE operating system. Hopefully the work done by Microsoft would get more applications into Marketplace for Mobile as the audience for such apps would increase to include GPS, in-car consoles, and other devices that run the embedded Windows CE OS.
