Meizu gets year in spotlight with 20 million shipments

Doesn’t it always seem like we have a soup du jour cycle going on with Chinese OEMs? We kept hearing about Xiaomi riding a rocket to success before its current sputtering phase, leaving Huawei to fly above its wake. Meantime, there’s Elephone, ZTE, Letv and probably one named “SUPERLUCKYDUCKDUCK” if we spent enough time scouring the right industrial parks in Harbin.

Well, Meizu gets a chance to gloat a little bit today, as it announced on its blog that total sales for the year have exceeded 20 million. That represents a 350 percent jump from last year’s number.

The company put out six phones this year with its PRO 5 phone this first in the device portfolio to price above ¥3,000 ($463 as of this post). Meizu’s presence has expanded to 300 outlets while customer support satisfaction has been marked at 98.88 percent.

The manufacturer’s CEO is forecasting a more modest gain for next year: up to 25 million units shipped.
