Marshmallow rolls out ‘from March 7’ for Sony Xperia Z5 series, Z4 Tablet, and Z3+
Unlike most other Android device manufacturers, Sony tends to work simultaneously on software updates for a host of phones, thus stalling the rollout’s start and refusing to give new flagships preferential treatment.
The upside is made obvious in a recent tweet from the company’s British Xperia arm, as the Z5 “series”, Z4 Tablet and Z3+ might all receive over-the-air Marshmallow goodies beginning March 7. Granted, we still expect small gaps between deliveries of 6.0 enhancement packages for those products, as well as traditional distribution in so-called waves.
But chances are the Sony Xperia Z5, Z5 Premium, Z5 Compact, Z4 Tablet, and Z3+ will together leave Lollipop behind by the end of April. Possibly, even before March wraps up, at least in certain European markets as far as unlocked variants go.
On the not so bright side of things, reports of M add-ons already making their way to Z5s in Turkey a couple of weeks back were likely false or lost in translation. Meanwhile, last week’s recruitment of the Xperia Z2, Z3, and Z3 Compact in the latest Beta Program suggests the three shall follow suit on the Android 6.0 bandwagon in a matter of a few months tops too.
Then, you also have the Z3 Tablet Compact, Z2 Tablet, M5, C5 Ultra, M4 Aqua, and C4, all of which were confirmed to score Marshmallows eventually ever since October 2015. Talk about impressive OS support! If Sony manages to swiftly accomplish all its updating goals, that is.
