Fancy a water-resistant 5.2-inch LG V20? Move to Japan, and get the V34 on AU

By Adrian Diaconescu October 18, 2016, 11:59 am

It’s hard to imagine an Android smartphone looking better on paper than the LG V20 this holiday season. The non-modular Snapdragon 820 powerhouse appears to have it all, from a robust exterior to an ingeniously removable battery, sharp display, copious RAM count, dual rear camera, wide angle lens selfie shooter, Hi-Fi Quad DAC audio, and even pre-installed 7.0 Nougat software.

Wait a minute, it just dawned on us watching T-Mobile’s latest epic unboxing video that LG didn’t make its newest flagship fully corn maze-proof. That’s to say it’s shock-resistant, courtesy of the same MIL-STD-810G certification as last year’s V10, but it won’t survive water immersion. Probably, not even a few splashes.

If you live in Japan however, you’re in luck… yet again, getting (likely exclusive) dibs on the LG V34 isai Beat on the nation’s third largest mobile network. The KDDI-owned au will soon begin to sell the oddly-named handheld for an undisclosed price, with essentially the same exact specs as the international LG V20, save for a couple.

The V34 is significantly smaller, at 5.2 inches, but not lower-res, retaining the 2,560 x 1,440 pixel count. And it’s protected against both liquid and dust damage, thanks to IP67 authorization. The battery is understandably a little lighter too, at 3,000 mAh, which shouldn’t hurt autonomy in the slightest, and all in all, the LG V34 weighs 146 grams while measuring 8mm thin. Why oh why can’t the whole wide world enjoy this arguably superior product?
