What’s up with all the big-time smartphone producers that seem intent on unveiling their fall flagships anywhere but IFA Berlin early next month? Okay, so Samsung wanted to get as much of a head start as possible on the iPhone 7 (6SE?), taking the wraps off the Galaxy Note 7 in NYC, London and Rio this week.
But we thought at least LG would for sure pick the capital of Germany as the V20’s announcement host city, seeing as how the eternal Korean number two giant “coincidentally” scheduled the phablet’s commercial release for September.
As it turns out, the timing was indeed a coincidence, and the LG V20 will go official and fully detailed in San Francisco just as IFA wraps up. Namely, on September 6, with Seoul entertaining its very own introduction event the next day.
Why San Fran, and not Berlin? Perhaps because there’s a lot riding on this second-gen Android monster, and LG has recently posted solid US sales results, which is not exactly what we can say on the old continent. Or maybe the company simply wants the limelight for itself, on a dedicated date, in a special venue, where it doesn’t need to watch out for Huawei, Sony or Samsung surprises.
