Regardless of when it will hit, early next year or soon, Windows Phone 7.8 should close the gap between legacy Windows Phones and fresh devices which are delivered with Windows Phone 8 on board. Of course, features which imply the newest hardware, like NFC, will be missing, but there should be some pretty cool bits inside for older devices.
Contacted by a worried customer, LG Poland has replied to an e-mail regarding the Windows Phone 7.8 update for the LG Optimus 7, the manufacturer’s first Windows Phone alongside the 7Q. Despite being constantly updated to NoDo, Mango and then Tango, the Optimus 7 will apparently not receive its Windows Phone 7.8 refresh. Is this the end of LG and Windows Phone? Will we see some new devices in the future (and will those too be abandoned by the OEM despite Microsoft’s efforts to offer support and a refresh over-the-air)?
