LG Nexus 5 rumored as watered-down G2: SoC, camera downgrades

One of the more contentious rumors in Android land has concerned the choice of just which OEM will be behind the next Nexus smartphone. For a while, LG kept popping up in stories about this fabled Nexus 5, but last week we heard from a pretty reliable source that Motorola would be making the phone, instead. That’s far from the end of this argument, and today new rumors spin the bottle back over towards LG, attempting to name a few Nexus 5 specs.

There have been plenty of suggestions that LG would base a Nexus 5 off the just-launched G2. This time, however, we’re getting the tale of a slightly different phone; according to these rumors, the LG Nexus 5 would only run a Snapdragon 600 SoC, and rather than the G2’s 13-megapixel main camera, would only have a 10-megapixel shooter (no word on optical stabilization).

Storage would also get a cut, too, with 8GB and 16GB options, just like the Nexus 4. Supposedly, LG would go with specs like these in order to keep costs down – this rumor claims that those 8GB and 16GB Nexus 5 versions would sell for the same $300 and $350 the Nexus 4 did.

This source doesn’t provide further detail on handset specs, which would presumably be in line with the G2.
