LG G5 hands-on: introducing the modular flagship (Video)

MWC 2016 is, for all intents and purposes, underway (tomorrow’s formal start notwithstanding), and we’ve got our first big hero-phone announcement out of the way already, as LG goes official with the G5.

Arguably more than any other flagship-level phone premiering at MWC this year (that we know about yet, anyway), the G5 represents a new direction for its manufacturer, and LG wasn’t content to tweak a few specs on the G4 and call that it’s next phone. Instead, the G5 pushes out into new directions in terms of design (and the functionality that design affords), giving the phone a metal body, always-on display, unique removable battery, and a pair of rear cameras that support some incredible wide-angle shots.

We’re looking forward to spending a lot of hands-on time with the G5, and while the phone deserves some really in-depth treatment, we were able to spend a few quick minutes with it already and get a nice initial look at the phone’s hardware and software package – the latter there opening up some potential avenues for controversy, with moves like ditching its app drawer.
