LG all but confirms G2 for August 7 event

Back in June, we learned that LG was throwing together a little event for itself, scheduled to take place on August 7 in New York City. We speculated a little about what the manufacturer might have to reveal, and based on some earlier comments it had been making on a follow-up to last year’s Optimus G, we wondered if we might not see this G2 arrive a bit earlier than the IFA debut that once seemed likely. With less than a month to go now before the event, LG is starting to be just a little less coy about what’s on the agenda, and has been dropping some less than subtle hints that it will indeed be launching the G2.

LG has started releasing teasers on a number of fronts using this “Great 2 Have You!” language, as seen in the above event invite. The exaggerated size of the G and 2 in the text leave little question about LG’s intentions.

The same line pops up in a new video produced by the manufacturer, and it again references this August 7 New York event. At this point, we can pretty safely assume that we’ll be seeing the LG G2 unveiled.

The G2 should be one of the first phones around running the Snapdragon 800 quad-core SoC, a beefier version of the 600 you’ll find the heart of phones like the HTC One and Galaxy S 4.
