LG G Watch R can’t beat the Moto 360 on pricing

Burned-out on AT&T sales announcements by now? Today we’ve already heard about the carrier’s plans for the Galaxy Note Edge, Desire Eye, Lumia 830, and more, and even with all those devices out of the way, it turns out that we’re still not done. For (what we’re sure hoping is) the carrier’s final bit of release news of the day it’s turning its attention to wearables, sharing word of the start of sales for LG’s G Watch R and settling the question about what pricing’s going to look like for the latest round-screened Android Wear model.

Online sales of the G Watch R start up this coming Wednesday, followed by the watch arriving in AT&T stores on Friday. No matter how you grab it, the G Watch R will run you just shy of $300.

We’ve been waiting for that pricing info for a while now, and the important bit here is how the G Watch R compares to the rest of the Android Wear lineup, and the also-round-screened Moto 360 in particular. The G Watch R may not have the 360’s “flat tire,” but it’s also $50 more expensive than Motorola’s option. Considering how we’ve heard from a substantial number of users that they prefer the 360’s overall look to the G Watch R, even that small price premium may be enough to have a big (and largely negative) impact on the G Watch R’s sales outlook. Then again, with the holiday season looming, could some early discounts be just a few weeks away?
