When you’re categorizing manufacturers of mobile devices, you probably think of HTC as a smartphone company, focusing its efforts on handsets. Samsung, on the opposite extreme, makes everything under the sun: phones, tablets, smartwatches – you name it. Where does LG fall on this spectrum? It’s got loads of phones, sure, and it’s really been stepping up its smartwatch game in recent years, but what about tablets? They’ve never felt like a huge part of LG’s mobile focus, but every once in a while a new model pops up on our radar. The latest to do so is a new spin on the company’s G Pad X, as we hear about an upcoming 8.0-inch model for T-Mobile.
Back in September we saw AT&T get the LG G Pad X 10.1, and Verizon has its own smaller version, the G Pad X 8.3. From the sound of things, this rumored T-Mobile G Pad X 8.0 would come pretty close to that Verizon tablet in terms of specs, but still tweak things just a little: look for a 1920 x 1200 display, 1.5GHz octa-core Snapdragon 615 SoC, and a pair of front and back five-megapixel cameras. As a physically smaller tablet, this eight-incher would also see a slight hit in the battery department, ending up with only a 4650mAh power pack.
As far as a launch and availability go, T-Mobile could be a little over a month away from beginning sales of the G Pad X 8.3, with availability sometime in mid-May. We’re not sure if what we’re hearing about pricing is based on an actual leak (or is just a common-sense calculation), but the tablet’s likely to sell for a figure close to the G Pad X 8.3’s $300 sticker price.
