LG biometrics sensor claimed to be thinner, more accurate

Not bigger, yet better. So LG Innotek says as it debuts a new “ultra slim optical bio sensor module” that measures heart rates, stress indices and blood oxygenation, perhaps better than one recently introduced by Samsung.

The module’s just 1mm thick, thanks to an advanced PCB with a mounted integrated circuit and a photo diode layered on top. There are five LEDs on the module encased in a gold-plated chamber to enhance luminescence. This should result in a 30 percent improvement in signal penetration, a 20 percent reduction in battery consumption and a 38 percent reduction in margin of error for heart rate measurements (from ±8bpm to ±5bpm).

Expect them in your wearables and possibly even select smartphones soon.
