LeEco US launch set for this fall

We talked with LeEco — formerly LeTV — yesterday about how things currently are for its teams. Why were they doing a smart bike? An electric vehicle? How are things going in Asia? And, importantly to us, where is the company at in the US?

Off the record, a marketing director told us that the company is building up across the west from Seattle to Los Angeles and to expect to hear announcements in a couple of months.

Well, LeEco has made it official. Director of Public Relations Todd Witkemper said that we should see its phones this fall with a target demographic of millennials. Keeping up with its reputation as “the ‘Netflix’ of China,” it is working on media licensing to flesh out its mobile ecosystem. It will sell the phones unlocked.

The company debuted its Max Pro at CES this year with promises to launch in the US relatively soon, but decided to scrap those plans in favor of working on a more complete presence with its US buildup.
