LeEco schedules April 20 Beijing event ahead of ‘grand’ US product launch

If there was a rookie of the year trophy awarded for smartphone manufacturers, LeEco, also known as LeTV or Leshi Internet Information & Technology, would comfortably take home the 2015 crown.

The China-based OEM made waves chiefly in its domestic market by unveiling ridiculously affordable products like the Le 1, Le 1 Pro, Le Max and Le 1s, which ultimately racked up an impressive 4 million unit sales in only nine months on store shelves.

The LeTV Le 1S alone reportedly shipped in 3 million copies in less than 90 days, so although it’s still early days, a sequel might be fast approaching a formal introduction. Rumored to pack Snapdragon 820 or Helio X20 processing power, the LeEco Le 2 will obviously come in Pro and non-Pro configurations, the latter of which could end up costing the equivalent of $250 tops on Chinese shores.

That’s merely an (educated) guess, and we won’t find out more until April 20, when the wildly ambitious hardware maker plans to bring to light the “latest products” in its “smart device ecosystem.” Notice the plural form of the word “product”, as well as the “ecosystem” use, suggesting we’re probably looking at a jam-packed event.

Various phones, TVs, electric cars, possibly smartwatches and other wearables too shall debut next month, and tech enthusiasts in Asia should be joined by their Western counterparts in looking forward to the press conference. That’s because LeEco is currently preparing for a “grand product launch in the US later this year.” Pretty bold, don’t you think?
