Next year’s product cycle won’t just see an all-glass iPhone. It will also feature three big tablet releases from Infinite Loop. That’s the latest word from KGI Securities and analyst Ming-Chi Kuo as investors try to plot the course of Apple.
The immediate course of action will likely be to sell — the firm has revised down its annual iPad shipment estimate for the rest of this year from a range of 45-50 million to 35-40 million.
For fiscal 2017, Kuo expects two iPad Pro entries — a revised 12.9-inch model and a new 10.5-inch slab, both with the TSMC-built A10X processor on its new 10nm process. A lower-cost 9.7-inch iPad with the A9X processor is also predicted. These new iPads aren’t expected to rescue sales as they are forecast to fall another 10 to 20 percent for the year.
Here’s something that may get some goats: an iPad with a flexible AMOLED panel in 2018.
“If Apple can truly tap the potential of a flexible AMOLED panel,” Kuo notes, “we believe the new iPad model will offer new selling points through radical form factor design and user behavior changes, which could benefit shipments.”
