The Sony Ericsson Xperia Play was a real gamble — which is funny because the phone itself was a gaming device — and while some loved it, it didn’t manage to sell that well.

However, there are recent rumors according to which Sony (this time sans Ericsson) might be working on a follow-up to last year’s Xperia Play. As you can see in the render above (which we advise you to treat with a fairly large dose of salt) the phone has the same slide-out design as last year’s model with the gaming controls featured.

Concept-Phones has it on good authority that the phone above, namely the Xperia Play 2, is rather real. There are even some specs to go with it: 4.3-inch HD screen with a 1280 x 720 resolution, eight-megapixel camera with LED flash, 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor (which might change), and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, which is rather strange given the four capacitive button on the bottom-front.

Let us know what you think and, of course, if this thing turns out to be true, how many of you out there would run to the store and grab one?
