iPhone sales continue to grow, despite sluggish smartphone market

The smartphone market is a very interesting business. It doesn’t matter how popular brands like Nokia and Motorola were a few years ago, we all know how things went for most of the leaders these last few years. Apple, an unknown to the business in that period is seeing an opposite response from the market, and even more so now with the iPhone 6.

Gartner has just published its world-wide smartphone market numbers, and the results are rather revealing. Year over Year, Apple has grown a crazy 36% in sales when compared to last year, while market leaders like Samsung have seen a drop of 5.3%. Keep in mind that Samsung continues to own the Market by a significant fraction, but when a competitor grows this much, while Samsung loses does say a lot. Huawei and Xiaomi have also seen positive growth over the last few quarters, while other leaders like Lenovo haven’t, even after the acquisition of Motorola. Gartner analysts claim that China has determined most of these figures, and at the moment, the iPhone is the smartphone that this particular market wants.

There’s a lot on the table with the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy Note 5 though, so devices like the iPhone 6s will tell us more about Apple’s ability to remain at the top.
