iPhone iOS Google Mobile App Delivers Push Gmail, Calendar Notifications
For many iPhone users who are part of Google’s online ecosystem, there was a glaring omission of push notifications for mail and calendars. Now, Google’s back in the game and will be delivering push Google Calendar and Gmail notifications to iPhone owners via the Google Mobile App, available for free on the iTunes App Store.
Google had provided a workaround for push Gmail delivery on the iPhone by allowing users to setup an Exchange ActiveSync workaround for Gmail, called Google Sync. Utilizing the Exchange protocol, mail would be seamlessly delivered to mobile devices supporting Exchange ActiveSync, along with Calendar and Contact information.
The difference here is that not only will you get push content, but also push notifications to alert you of new content. With the latest edition of the Google Mobile App for iOS, you can setup the app to get either the iOS-style pop-up notification alert and/or badges.
