iPhone 5 Lightning Dock: New Adapters Coming, Apple Messes Up Pre-Order Accessories
According to our poll results so far, it seems like those of you who decided to make the plunge on an iPhone 5 had some pretty good luck getting your order while the first stock run was still available. You may have noticed, then, something a little confusing on the page to choose your new phone’s accessories, where it looked like Apple was throwing-in a free 30-pin-to-Lightning adapter.
Apple’s since corrected the error, but for a while there the site was offering users the opportunity to buy an additional adapter, saying that the first one was already included in the phone’s purchase price. What Apple actually meant was that you get a USB-to-Lightning cable; any 30-pin adapters are purely optional components. It’s unclear if Apple might reach out to users who placed their orders before the correction was made and give them the option to change things, or just throw in a free adapter out of goodwill.
We’re also learning that Apple has a couple other adapters in the works, including one that will output HDMI over Lightning, and another for hooking your iPhone 5 up to a monitor with VGA input. There’s no hard-and-fast arrival date for those, but we’d expect to see them before the holiday season.
