12.9-inch iPad Pro launching with Apple A8X chip?
September came and has (almost) gone without the release of new iPads, so we’re looking squarely at October for the release of new entries to Apple’s tablet lineup – which means it’s about time that the rumor train start rolling. Today, a report from Taiwanese site Technews.tw looks to start detailing the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, allegedly one of the upcoming Apple slates.
The source states that the Pro will have an upgraded version of the Apple A8 processor found on the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, the A8X. This naming convention is believable, as the fourth-gen iPad had an Apple A6X processor (and the third-gen an A5X), and the idea of a more powerful processor for the larger tablet doesn’t sound like a bad one.
Previous reports are also corroborated by the Technews.tw piece – reportedly, the iPad Air 2 will have an Apple A8 processor (the same as what the iPhone 6 line features) and 2GB of RAM, double what its predecessor had.
Both these tablets, along with a refreshed iPad Mini, are expected to have Touch ID and improved camera modules as well. The new Air is expected in October, while the other two tablets may be pushed back to the first half of 2015.
