Apple iPad mini 2 might not launch until 2014

The year started off so strongly when it came to rumors of the follow-up to Apple’s first iPad mini, presumably upgrading the pint-sized tablet to feature a Retina-quality display. We heard that the new mini might launch sometime in March… but then we were moving back to sometime in the fallthen it was April… and lately we’ve been returning to the idea of a fall launch, once again. Now there are claims that won’t new iPad mini at all this year, and that the Retina display might not be a part of (all) the upgrades.

Well, to be fair, it sounds like Retina is still on the table, but that it wouldn’t be a defining feature of the iPad mini 2 – rather, there might be both low-res and Retina versions released simultaneously.

Sources blame supply chain issues with this decision to shelve the next mini until 2014, with Apple not wanting to launch prematurely and have its fans suffer the effects of shortages during the stressful holiday shopping season.
