Date suggested for iPad 5, iPad mini 2 launch event

Last week brought us pretty much just the Apple news we were expecting: launch announcements for the iPhone 5S, and 5C, as well as details on distribution of iOS 7. Despite some rumors in the weeks leading up to the event that Apple might ultimately bring along some new iPads, as well, that idea was once again dismissed before we even made it into September. But that just leaves the question hanging: when will Apple go official with the iPad 5 and the iPad mini 2? We’ve yet to see Apple distribute any invitations, but a new rumor claims to have some early insight into the company’s plans, suggesting that Apple will launch its tablets on October 15.

Beyond the iPad 5 and iPad mini 2, Apple would presumably use this event to also introduce new Mac hardware. Unfortunately, we haven’t a clue where this specific information comes from – why this date? – and there’s little cause to place an abundance of faith in it. That said, having heard it now we’ll be keeping it in mind, and if it October 15 starts finding itself at the heart of more and more iPad launch rumors, we’ll come around to it quickly enough; it’s a sensible enough starting point, and we only need more evidence.

Certainly, we’ve seen enough leaks of this new hardware by now. All that really remains is for Apple to open the gates and let this pair loose.
