It doesn’t matter how hard you try, iOS Maps is useless. It doesn’t matter if you’re going through 3D Aerial view, ever since Google was able to launch maps for iOS, most people can’t recall the last time they ever used Apple’s counterpart. Obviously Apple is not sitting in its laurels, and we do know they’ve made significant enhancements to the platform ever since its launch.

New patents suggest that Apple wants to go a little further with the service and provide “Street View” functionality just like Google does on their Maps service. The patent is called “3D Position Tracking for Panoramic Imagery Navigation”, and where it differs with Google’s Street View is that instead of having to pan around with your fingers, Apple’s service will allow the gyroscope to control your view of the streets.

Obviously Apple’s patents sometimes take years to happen, so you never know if this will ever be a reality. Specially when you ask yourself if they also plan to photograph all the streets like Google did.
