Apple just got done launching the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, Apple Watch, and its Apple Pay service – sure, no new tablets, but all things considered, more than enough content from a launch event to keep us happy. Amidst all those announcements of new products and systems came some news that’s going to be very relevant for you Apple users who aren’t quite ready to shell-out the cash for this new hardware, as Apple shared its plans for the wide release of iOS 8.

Beginning a week from tomorrow, September 17, Apple will release iOS 8 for existing iPhone and iPad models.

Supported hardware includes the iPhone 4s on up, the iPad 2 and subsequent generations, and both iPad minis.

Standout features arriving with the release of iOS 8 include the predictive QuickType keyboard, the new Photos app for editing and organizing your picture library, and of course the new Health app that will pair with the Apple Watch’s sensors to form a comprehensive hub for your personal fitness data.

Devs get access to the final build a little early, with word that the iOS 8 gold master is available as of today.
