iOS 8 and even iOS 9 rumors begin – changes focus on services

Apple has just launched iOS 7.1 to the public yesterday, and even though this was just a major bug fix to the problems that many complained about with iOS 7, it’s clear that any future changes that come to iOS will be focused on polishing what already exists. We know that the previous version of Apple’s mobile operating system lasted for nearly seven years and also focused on improvements throughout that time, so now that we’re already hearing rumors of iOS 8 and even iOS 9, you can bet things will remain on that same mentality.

The new reports claim that Apple will heavily focus iOS 8 on maps. We all know how terrible Maps have been on iOS since its launch with iOS 6. It hasn’t mattered how visually pleasing or 3D it is, people still rely on Google Maps to get to the places they want to go. The report claims that Apple plans to use its recent acquisition of BroadMap, Embark and HopStop to take iOS Maps to the next level. The report even claims that iOS 9 will then give additional steps forward in augmented reality services, and even indoor mapping.

It’s hard to tell if the future version of iOS will actually be called iOS 8, but whatever the case may be, we can expect a launch to happen this June at WWDC. Hopefully Apple does more than just polish Maps though, as there are still things that require modernization in the way iOS operates.
