Countdown to iOS 7: timetable leaked for path to public release

Apple’s next iPhone, and the new version of iOS the hardware will usher-in, is nearly upon us. If we’re to believe the most recent rumors, Apple could intend to launch the iPhone 5S (as well as some of its other new hardware) as soon as September 10. Last Tuesday we saw Apple release iOS 7 beta 5 to developers, and noted at the time that with this anticipated launch creeping up so quickly, we weren’t likely to see too many more of these betas before Apple finalized this new version of its platform. Today, we hear some rumors trying to lay out exactly what’s going to happen next for iOS 7.

According to these sources, Apple’s going to drop the final iOS 7 beta next week, with Monday looking like a strong possibility. Following that release, it intends to put the finishing touches in place, and prepare a gold master for release to carrier partners and employees to test beginning September 5. Assuming that goes well, the GM should be ready to hit Apple developers at large on September 10.

With such extensive changes to the platform’s look, iOS 7 has the potential to be one of the more notable updates to the OS in recent memory. We’ve already heard plenty from industry folk about their thoughts on the overhaul, but the big question is going to be how the public at large responds. We can’t wait for when iOS 7 will finally go public, anticipated for later in September.
