Rumors Suggest Apple Nearly Done Prepping iOS 6.1

We’ve been following Apple’s work on iOS 6.1 since we saw the first beta head out to developers back right at the start of November. In the weeks since, there have been a number of new betas released, but no clear sign of when the update would be ready to go public. Now a rumor claims that Apple could be just about ready to give devs the GM, clearing the way for the eventual wide release of iOS 6.1.
According to what ifun describes as a reliable source, Apple is nearly ready to seed iOS 6.1 beta 5 to its development community. The big question is whether or not this will be the gold master. Supposedly, Apple’s been doing a whole bunch of internal testing on this update in order to arrive at that decision, and if it likes what it sees, there’s a good chance that beta 5 could indeed be the GM.
Once that gets into the hands of devs, and assuming no new issues pop up, full distribution of iOS 6.1 could be just a few more weeks down the road.
Improvements expected for iOS 6.1 include a number of bugfixes and enhancements, including some targeted at Siri and Apple’s Maps.
