Apple Releases iOS 6.0.2 With WiFi Fixes

We just got done talking about software updates for a couple Windows Phone 8 devices, but now we’re switching gears for a moment and venturing over to Apple-land. Apple released iOS 6.0.1 back at the start of November, and that update delivered a number of bugfixes. That’s pretty much the same road we find ourselves going back down today, upon news that Apple has begun distribution of another bugfix release, iOS 6.0.2.

Some of the changes in iOS 6.0.1 attempted to address problems with connecting to WiFi networks, specifically issues where the WPA2 protocol was in use. Problem is, that wasn’t the only situation under which WiFi was choking in iOS 6, and now 6.0.2 is attempting to address some of those extant WiFi problems.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like distribution is going off without a hitch, as a number of users have reported issues connecting to Apple’s update servers. Sometimes it works, but a lot of people are seeing error messages. We’ve got a feeling that Apple may just be getting swamped, so you might want to give it a couple hours for the rush to die down. And really, if your WiFi has been behaving well, there’s nothing here for you anyway.

Update: You also needn’t worry about 6.0.2 if you have an older device; it’s only for the iPhone 5 and the iPad mini.
