Microsoft is ending support for Internet Explorer 8, 9, and 10

By Anton D. Nagy January 6, 2016, 10:57 pm

If you are using Internet Explorer 8, 9, or 10, prepare to receive an “End of Live” notification on January 12. Part of the upcoming cumulative security update, the EOL notification that will pop up starting Tuesday will warn users that are still running IE 8, 9 or 10, that their days are numbered, and t’s time to upgrade to the latest version of Microsoft’s browser.

This doesn’t mean that Internet Explorer 8, 9, or 10 will stop working, or that it will mysteriously disappear from your computer. What this means, however, is that Microsoft will stop offering support in form of bug fixes and security patches, leaving those who use these browser versions vulnerable to future possible malware or threats.

Said notification will go out most probably in order to also urge users to upgrade to a newer version of Microsoft’s operating system that supports IE 11: Windows 10 (32-bit or 64-bit), Windows 8.1 Update (32-bit or 64-bit), Windows 7 with SP1 (32-bit or 64-bit), Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows Server 2008 R2 with SP1 (64-bit only).

While Microsoft Edge, considered a more modern browser, is offered on Windows 10, IE 11 is also bundled, mostly for compatibility reasons.
