Sony press events next week may mark start of international Xperia Z4/Z3+ spread

What is Sony thinking when it comes to its Android flagship strategy? The company introduced the Xperia Z4 last month, but only with news of availability in the Sony’s native Japan. What about the rest of us? We’ve been patiently waiting for word of an international flagship since, whether that arrives as the Z4, or maybe with some slightly different branding – and at least some evidence suggests that the phone might become the Z3+ in other markets. Now it looks like answers could finally be about to arrive, as Sony prepares to share its “new Xperia flagship” with Hong Kong and Taiwan next Wednesday.

The event is likely to share local availability info for other recently launched models like the Xperia C4 and Xperia Z4 Tablet, but we’re most interested in what’s going to happen for the Z4 itself.

That involves not just confirmation of how the Z4 will be presented in other markets, but possibly also some news (even if just a vague timeline) about how the phone might spread beyond Asia. We’ll also be keeping an eye out for word of any other regional Sony events, in case it’s planning similar announcements elsewhere. For now, the only other one on the radar is in India, also next week.
