This news may not surprise you if you were invited to test Huawei’s Ascend Mate2 Lollipop update early as part of a special program, but for the rest of you, the time has finally come. Huawei today has officially announced that the Huawei Ascend Mate2 Android 5.1 Lollipop update is out.

The update isn’t quite yet being pushed over-the-air to Ascend Mate2 devices; if you’re interested in rocking it on your own device, you’re going to have to jump through some hoops, but Huawei is here to ease you through them. The update includes Android 5.1 with EMUI 3.1, and can be downloaded straight from Huawei’s website if you’re daring enough to do a manual flash – but the company does warn that you should back up your data before you proceed, should anything go wrong during the installation process.

If you know the associated risks and are ready to proceed regardless, jump to the source link below to see the instructions Huawei has compiled for installation. The Mate2, interestingly, is coming to Android 5.1 from Android 4.3 Jelly Bean – a build of Android that’s undoubtedly perceived as ancient around these parts. So we can only imagine how tempting it must be to go update your phone to the new software right now.
