Speculators believe HTC’s new company will be Vive spin-off

Is the Vive too big for HTC? Talk is rampant over the Taiwanese manufacturer’s new company with “industry sources” saying that it will take HTC’s VR business and get spun-off.

A spin-off would go against HTC’s pivot to creating tech products that encompass a lifestyle rather than just focusing on smartphones as it traditionally has. The company had to quash rumors that it was selling its headquarters to invest in the Vive. It’s also been fighting speculation that it will separate its VR business from the main company. Direct income from a big product such as the Vive would be sorely needed at HTC.

HTC responded with a statement confirming the existence of this new company that will work on — as Digitimes puts it — “new and innovative technology”. The company’s CEO, Cher Wang, also serves as representative of the new entity.
