If we’re to believe the rumors, HTC has found itself in a pretty dark place lately. Executives are jumping ship, and high-profile phones like the First with its Facebook integration are failing to resonate with users. As such, it’s probably a more important time than ever to take a step back and look at where HTC has come from – that this is a company that has been riding the ups and downs of the mobile game for years now, and has so far managed to find a way to always come right back up swinging. That makes this clip here particularly nice, with HTC just releasing a short video retrospective of its mobile electronics.

You won’t see every HTC handset featured (and a few milestones are surprisingly missing), or even most of them, but the company still manages to paint a nice landscape that hits on the high notes: innovations in 3G and 4G, getting the Android ball rolling, and a recent focus on audio and camera quality.

Unsurprisingly, this all leads up to the HTC One, and some of the accolades it’s received. So, sit back and take a couple minutes to see where HTC’s come from, starting back in the late ’90s and proceeding up to the present day. It may still be trying to figure out how to get a leg up on the likes of Samsung, but this is one smartphone heavyweight that we’ll likely see keeping at it for years to come.
