Sony has managed to start the Android 5.0 Lollipop update earlier than HTC for its Xperia Z Ultra Google Play Edition smartphone. However, HTC has been teasing the refresh for more than two weeks now, but, after running into some problems, the entire procedure was postponed to a later date, without a specific ETA.

It’s going to be a sweet weekend for owners of this specific phone, as the HTC One M8 GPe Lollipop update will start rolling out at noon on Friday, December 5, 2014. The information comes from Twitter where HTC’s Executive Mo Versi confirmed that technical approval has been received by Google on the new firmware. There is no information at the moment concerning the same update for the HTC One M7 GPe, but we’re guessing that couldn’t be so far out now.
