Yesterday we ran across a bunch of pics of the rumored HTC One M8 Ace, a cousin to the One M8 for China that makes a few hardware changes, like dropping the Duo Camera for a 13MP shooter. The language barrier made digesting that find a little difficult, but the images all looked very polished, as if pulled from official promotional material. Apparently there’s a good reason for that, as the source for that imagery has now emerged, and it’s HTC’s own site.

HTC China appears to have foregone any big event and simply released the Ace upon the internet. Now that it’s official, can we finally get to the bottom of that name? Well, maybe, but we’d still love to see the reassurance of an HTC-approved translation. The characters under the HTC One name here translate as “Fashion Edition,” a name we’ve heard for the Ace before.

There’s also a corresponding post from an official HTC account on Weibo, announcing a contest wherein HTC is giving away 100 limited collector’s editions of the phone beginning today and running through next Friday.

What about the actual start of sales, though? And is there any hope for seeing this phone make its way outside of China? As of now, we don’t have any progress on either front, but seeing as this model has only just debuted, it may be a matter of days before we get more of the story (or just some better translations of what’s already available).
