The past day or two have been big ones in helping flesh-out our understanding of HTC’s successor to the One, under development as its codename M8. It started with the discovery of a picture of a case which we were told was designed for the M8, showing an additional cutout on the rear beyond the usual camera/flash combo. After tossing around a couple theories, a rumor today claimed that the phone might feature a pair of image sensors around back, so the two largest cutouts could BOTH be cameras – possibly one standard, one low-light. This was already shaping up to be pretty convincing, and tonight we find some additional support, with a number of additional cases revealing the same design.

Cases for pre-release phones are a bit hit-and-miss; manufacturers want to have them ready for sale as soon as a handset launches, so in the effort to have stocks on hand, they’ll often jump the gun and produce designs before official phone dimensions have been confirmed.

We like to assume that case makers are working off insider data, but you never can be sure. With this same design popping up on multiple cases now, and not just that single instance we saw yesterday, we’re feeling much more confident that this is the M8’s actual layout.
