Remember the HTC M4? We heard the codename leaked back in February, along with some hardware specs. Now that the HTC First is official, some similarities between it and the M4 start to become apparent; both handsets use 4.3-inch 720p displays, for instance. While not all of the specs quite match up between the two, a new rumor puts forth some tweaked specs for the M4 that line up with the First closely enough to get us wondering if the M4 might be the non-Facebook version of the First, or simply one available on additional carriers.

Specifically, the processor on the M4 is now supposed to be another Snapdragon 400 component (albeit one running at 1.2GHz) and the phone would now only have 1GB of RAM, just like the First.

Some of this hardware actually sounds better than the First, like an UltraPixel main camera (previously rumored to be a 13-megapixel component).

Still, we’re not without our doubts. The site providing this info displays it alongside a picture of the Chinese HTC 603e. We’ve heard that model associated with the M4 before, but specs like a WVGA screen suggest that it’s actually substantially different hardware. We’ll need to see something a little more concrete before we really know what to expect from the M4.
