HTC Incredible 4G: First Render

HTC, following two tough quarters, is finally looking to turn its fortunes around with a pair of sexy handsets in its new One series, the One X and One S. Domestically, the X is headed to AT&T as the dual-core (but LTE-enabled) XL, while the the S is destined for T-Mobile; Sprint is getting its own One-esque model in the EVO 4G LTE. Well Verizon, the nation’s largest carrier, still doesn’t have a One to call its own — and the upcoming HTC Fireball, while attractive and nicely-spec’ed in its own right, seems to do little to change that (although the Vigor, once upgraded to Android Ice Cream Sandwich and Sense 4.0, should prove to be a pretty competitive alternative).

Set to launch — perhaps as early as the end of this month — as the Incredible 4G (Droid branding: unknown), Fireball has been tipped to offer a dual-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm processor coupled to an Adreno 225 GPU and 1GB of RAM, but “only” a qHD display. If true, that would place it squarely between mid-range and high-end, with today’s flagship handsets almost exclusively offering 720p HD resolution. On the plus side, Fireball/Incredible 4G should be only Verizon’s second phone to ship with both ICS and LTE on board, after the Galaxy Nexus, and at a more affordable price than the $300 premium commanded by Samsung’s offering at launch.
