Late last week, we learned that Canadian carrier Telus was informing its users that, despite earlier reports that HTC’s Desire HD would be getting an update to bring the phone Ice Cream Sandwich, those plans were now scrapped. In its latest update schedule, Telus explains the canceled Desire HD update by saying that HTC itself was dissatisfied with the phone’s ICS performance. That wasn’t just bad news for Desire HD owners, but also raised concerns that the Tunderbolt, the CDMA version of the Desire HD, would have its own ICS update similarly canceled. We’ve still got plenty of questions about just what’s going on here, but now HTC has finally spoken-out regarding the Desire HD’s update plans, and as far as the manufacturer is concerned, things are still a go.
HTC reports that it is “still on schedule to deliver an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for both the HTC Desire HD and Desire S”. While it didn’t address the phone directly, that also presumably spells good news for the Tunderbolt’s prospects.
So, what gives? Does Telus have some issue with Desire HD ICS performance that HTC doesn’t? Will it end up denying users access to the update? Or maybe, did someone’s wires just get crossed and they were thinking about another phone altogether?
As of now, the original document with the note about the Desire HD’s update cancellation is still present on the Telus website.
