HTC: Gingerbread Coming To HTC Thunderbolt in Q2

After waiting a long time for the Verizon HTC Thunderbolt to be launched and available, early adopters will have to (allegedly) wait some more to get a platform refresh update from the Taiwanese manufacturer.

According to an alleged email response from HTC to one of its customers, a Thunderbolt owner, the device will receive an update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread in the second quarter of 2011. This could mean April which is a couple of days away of might as well mean end of June, which is a bit further down the road.

Without speculating on the release date, we salute HTC’s intention to update the device to the latest Google mobile platform even though we feel that such a high end device should have shipped with Gingerbread out of the box. The email states: “We are excited to announce that the Thunderbolt will receive the Gingerbread (Android 2.3) update in Q2 2011. Stay tuned for details as we get closer to the update availability“.

The segment is followed by a list of features which look to be Gingerbread’s official list of changes rather than the HTC ROM’s changelog since NFC (Near Field Communication) is mentioned and to our knowledge the Thunderbolt doesn’t have that — as opposed to the Google Nexus S which runs Android 2.3 and does.
