Do we ever have HTC launches on the mind this evening, or what? We just got done making reference to last month’s One M8 for Windows launch in the context of Windows Phone branding-change rumors, and right before that we were checking out what might be new evidence in favor of an HTC Nexus 9. And wouldn’t you know it, but a new invitation to an upcoming October 8 HTC gathering just popped-up in our inbox. What could we hope to expect?

As you can see below, HTC is billing this one as its “double exposure” event, a pretty direct reference to some sort of photography, and one that may be making an allusion to the company’s Duo Camera tech. Really, though, the door’s wide open here, and we could just as easily be looking at a software-focused event as one with a hardware spin.

The problem is, we don’t really have a sense for any rumored HTC handset with particularly adept imaging capabilities in the pipeline. That alone is enough to have us thinking about software news, though we won’t discount the possibility that something’s been in development under the radar. Even if this is hardware, it may not even be a full-on new phone, but something like an accessory.

What we’re not getting, though, is a strong impression that this has anything to do with those Nexus 9 rumors. For one, that kind of news would be coming from Google, not HTC alone, and more than that, a tablet launch is rarely an opportunity to talk about photography.
