Gallery of iPhone 5S in gray has us expecting fourth shade of upcoming flagship

The idea that Apple would be producing both black and white variants of its hotly anticipated iPhone 5S is utterly without controversy – of course we’d get more of what’s been working so well for Apple thus far. And certainly, leaks coming in over the past several months have helped support this idea. Beyond those two, however, the situation’s been a whole lot less clear; despite early rumors suggesting Apple might make a golden iPhone 5S, the idea seemed just too unusual to accept up until a new wave of recent leaks started making such a color option feel very much real. With the anticipated launch just a couple weeks away, a fourth iPhone 5S color option is now making itself known, thanks to a new gallery of leaked images.

These Sonny Dickson leaks of the iPhone 5S and 5C have been really exceptional, and that doesn’t change now: great quality imagery, and plenty of angles. Besides these new looks at the gray 5S, which appears that it will share trim pieces with the black 5S, we also get some new shots of that gold/champagne 5S with which to compare it.

While we’re still not looking at an iPhone-5C-level assortment of shades, this would still be a pretty big step for Apple. We will say, at least, that seeing this gray option here today sure makes the gold one feel a little less extreme – it was just a bit hard to buy as the only new color option arriving.
