Of all the smartwatches we’ve heard rumored over the course of the past year, probably none have been quite so eagerly anticipated as those coming from Apple and Google. Sure, we don’t have confirmation for either product, but months and months have still managed to keep our interests piqued. While we’ve yet to see even a glimpse of possible hardware for a Google smartwatch, a new rumor claims that it could only be weeks away from launching, with plans to introduce the watch alongside Android 4.4 and the Nexus 5 on October 31.

That date is reportedly correct as of a month ago, though Google very well may have decided to change things if the last-minute details for all these separate products and software haven’t come together so nicely. Supposedly, Google’s smartwatch has been under development as codename Gem, though we’re at a loss for any specific hardware details, mention of pricing, or really anything but that name.

There’s been little indication thus far as to just when Google might be hoping to release a smartwatch, so word that it could be happening so soon comes as a bit of surprise; whether it will come to pass or not, remains to be seen. After all, Google hasn’t seemed to be in any particular rush to get Glass out the door, and we’d imagine it would spend a good amount of time refining its smartwatch user experience as well, as these are untested waters for the company.

Assuming any of this is true, what would you be looking for in a Google watch that companies like Samsung and Sony just haven’t delivered yet?
